Farm2Home: A Day celebrating Arkansas Grown & Arkansas Made

I grew up in a small farming town in Michigan. There would be times my guy friends would come to school dog tired from having to work their fields late into the night and early the next day.  I *watched* as my best friends mucked out the stalls of their barns. I ran through fields of hay and corn and I appreciated the beauty of it all but did I appreciate it for what it really was?  Probably not.  Blame it on age. Blame it on not having to worry about health or wealth. Most of all, blame it on lack of education about the importance of the farming industry, sustainability, and healthy living.

I'm paying more attention now and I love that Arkansas is providing just that sort of education to its people.

I was invited back to P. Allen Smith's Moss Mountain home for a day of learning about Arkansas Grown & Arkansas Made-programs to introduce Arkansans to the produce that is grown here in our state and the products and services made by its artisans. It was a lovely day.

It was a joy to listen to a farmers round table discussion about the industry and its relationship to the community. Their passion for the work they do was evident and what I got from their talk:

Farming equals relationships; with food, and with people.

We also got to sample Arkansas Made products. Let me just say-we have some awesome makers in this state.

I was happy to meet the maker of one of my favorite lotions-  Tammy Sue's Critters.  I even picked up a little something for you.  Yes, you!

Giveaway! To celebrate the fabulous-ness that is Arkansas Made, I'd love to send you some of my fave lotions and a little bit of P. Allen swag.  To enter, just leave a comment below and I'll choose a winner on Thursday.

Support local, my friends.  Whether you're in Arkansas or beyond.  Get to know your neighbors. Get to know your food.
